I live for Lipstick Queen products. I currently have in my possession 6 different lippies by Lipstick Queen, and I adore each and every one of them. Besides being one of the best lipsticks I have ever had the pleasure to wear… I think my infatuation with this brand might have something to do with its creator: Poppy King. She’s a sassy, savvy business woman who got her start in the cosmetic industry at the age of eighteen by launching her own company in Australia. Today, she’s the founder of a wildly successful company in the US. Who wouldn’t be interested to hear more about that success story? Well, now we can all satisfy our curiosity with Poppy’s recently released book: "Lessons of a Lipstick Queen".
More LQ news! Ordinarily sold exclusively at Barney’s, Poppy King’s incredible Lipstick Queen line is now available for sale online at the Lipstick Queen website. The new ecommerce site is incredibly easy to shop, so click HERE to check it out!
Though she’s terribly busy, Poppy was nice enough to provide Raging Rouge beauty addicts with some lipstick application tips and tricks for the Spring. Enjoy!
Q: What’s the best method for prepping lips, prior to lipstick application?
A: Exfoliate gently with a spare toothbrush to remove any dead skin and then put a little lip balm on.
Q: What are some tricks for lengthening lipstick wear?
A: Think of it like nail polish…apply one coat…blot. Let sink in and then apply another light coat.
Q: How can consumers best keep lips soft, and safe from the elements?
A: Keep well hydrated by drinking plenty of water and then use a chapstick or lip balm with sunscreen. Whatever you do don’t lick your lips! That dries them out.
Q: What Lipstick Queen has been historically most popular?
A: I would say Marilyn Monroe. Men, women and children adored her and her super glam but approachable sensibility.
Q: What Lipstick Queen shades do you recommend for Spring?
A: Coral Sinner, Saint Coral and Saint Pink. Coral is very chic this Spring and Coral Sinner is the chicest! Saint Pink is gorgeous, light and pretty. Perfect for Spring.
Q: Can we expect any new Summer products from Lipstick Queen?
A: YES!! Shine Hard Core Gloss!! This is the biggest, glossiest gloss ever. Think 1970’s disco chic.

Whimsical, ethereal and just downright gorgeous… the Spring Collection by gloMinerals contains colors as delicate as the gossamer wings of a butterfly. Glominerals new collection–fittingly named the "Butterfly Collection"–is packed with universally flattering gloLoose eye shadow shades like cheerful (a ripe peach), playful (a pastel pink) and whimsical (a gorgeous lilac). gloLip plumpers in sheer berry (pink) and copper shimmer (bronze).
The colors are girlish, soft and seductive. The mineral formula is gentle on the skin. GloLoose eye shadows are also packaged in a no-mess dispenser (no more mineral powder mess all over the bathroom sink), just dip in a shadow applicator brush to apply!
The lip plumper is natural, but it packs quite a punch! This cinnamon flavored gloss tingles like crazy, making lips look plump and sexy. I’m in love with the bronze shade with just a hint of sparkle. It imparts a goddessy look on its wearer.
Check out the Spring Butterfly Collection on the gloMinerals website. GloLoose eye shadows retail for $15 each, gloLip plumper + color retail for $16 each. This line can also be purchased online at iDerma.com, and can even be found at Whole Foods!
MAX Factor’s new ColorGenius Blush and Pressed Powder were introduced to the public during Spring/Summer 2008 Fashion Week in NYC.
MAX Factor’s ColorGenius Pressed Powder produces a gorgeous translucent finish, with a slight mattifying effect. Like a nude bullseye, this pressed powder combines three different shades. Mineral ingredients provide sheer coverage and even the skin tone. Three shades are available: light, medium and deep. The formula is oil-free and hypoallergenic!
MAX Factor’s ColorGenius Blush is a mineral-based cheek color with three varying shades of the same color to create 6 different possible color combinations. Contouring, highlighting or all-over face color is available in one compact! Three color families to choose from: roses, peaches and spices.
Both products retail for roughly $8.49, and can be found at drugstores.

You may remember my rave review of MAX Factor Vivid Impact Dual Color Highlighting Mascara (and if you don’t… it will be republished later this week). I must admit, I’m equally smitten with MAX Factor’s double-ended Vivid Impact Eye Shadow. What better season than Spring to introduce some color to your makeup routine?
MAX Factor’s Vivid Impact shadow, introduced in January 2008, is available in pairs of vibrant color, each perfectly matched and named oh-so-cleverly. The formula is amazingly blendable and long lasting. It’s mineral-based, hypoallergenic and opthalmologically tested.
But I confess, my favorite thing about this shadow is the stubby cone-shaped applicator sponge. Each side of this wand has its own applicator, and it makes precise application a snap, even for those with less than steady hands. Need to line the eyes? No problem! Pinpoint precision is easy. Just tap off excess loose powder, then gently line your eyes. Need the perfect crease application? Crease application can be tricky for the best of us, but this applicator makes it simple to trace the crease of your eye. It’s as if you’re using a marker! Just follow up with some finger-blending to soften the look.
Retail price is $8.99, but you can snag this product at drugstore.com for $7.22 at the time I’m writing this!
Colors combinations available include: Brassy Berry, Irish Coffee, Peach Basket, Pink Cloud, Moody Mint, Smokin’ Rose, Two Cents, Domino Effect, Emerald Coast and Sultry Sage.

This Spring is all about color, and all about options! ANY shade of pink is game! Pale pink, bright pink, dark pink… Glossy or matte finishes, all are of-the-moment and gorgeously sexy!
With much help from my shutterbug husband (who couldn’t wait to test his new camera’s abilities with these up-close shots)… this post highlights my favorite pink picks of the season. Stay tuned! Tomorrow’s post showcases pinks that are a bit more sophisticated.
Urban Decay’s XXX Shine Lip Gloss in Quickie is a syrupy bright deep pink gloss that smells deliciously like peppermint. Retail $16. |
Hard Candy Sweet Spot Glosses rank among my favorites. Psychedelic is a sizzling pink gloss that appears very dark in its tube, but applies sheer. Retail $11. |

Readers of the Raging Rouge Beauty Blog are eternally in search of universally flattering makeup. It just so happens that an extremely hot look for this Spring–the marriage of pink and gold shades– works for everyone! The products below pair the two colors seamlessly, giving a half girl-next-door and half sexy-siren look to the wearer.

Benefit Cosmetics recently introduced their Spring palette, pink to please a woman… gold to get the guy!
This palette contains sweet and innocent shades of pink and seductive shades of gold, for both the lips and the eyes!
The three shadow shades and three gloss shades included in this palette ensure you’ll be ready for any eventuality this Spring. An included applicator brush and mirror are fantastic for application on the go, so this palette should be a permanent resident in your bag. Have fun with this product! The glosses mix together beautifully!
This palette retails for $30 and can be found at Benefit Cosmetics, Sephora and Beauty.com.

Always at the height of glamour, NARS duo eye shadows are available in dozens of color pairings, including this newly launched shimmering pink and gold combination named "Alhambra".
Part of the Shanghai Lily Collection, these shadows have a metallic glint, and the pale shades of pink bring to mind flowers in bloom and golden sunrises. The NARS formula applies like silk, and gives long-lasting crease-free wear. As a bonus, this shadow can be used wet for more dramatic Spring looks!
The NARS Duo Eye Shadow in Alhambra retails for $32 at Sephora.com and NARS online.

I’m a palette girl– always have been. There’s a certain superior result when the pros personally coordinate the shades you wear on your face, much like hiring an interior designer to conduct a home-makeover. So I couldn’t wait to try Being TRUE’s new limited edition color palette for Spring and Summer 2008.
This amazing compact houses shadow, liner, bronzer, blush and highlighter with a HUGE mirror for easy application on the go. If you’re the type of person who normally carries a huge cosmetics bag, you can replace much of what you carry with this convenient compact. It’s the ultimate in portable makeup! Not sure which colors go where? No problem- the front of the box flips open to reveal step-by-step application guidelines. It’s like color by numbers for your face! The golden and bronze cheek shades give the skin a healthy and subtle glow, while the ripe peach and pink shadows and cheek color are eye-opening and lush.
This limited-edition luminance cache contains the colors inspired (matte peach), enlightened (soft pink shimmer), transformed (rich golden brown), warmth (bronze glaze), elated (gilded pink) and beaming (sheer gold metallic). Retail price of this palette is $86.
Being TRUE products are exclusively sold through high-end salons and spas, including: Nob Hill Spa (San Francisco), Sanctuary at Camelback Mountain (Scottsdale), St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort and Spa (Dana Point), Marriott Doral Golf Resort and Spa (Miami), Hotel ZaZa (Dallas), Restore Spa (New York) and many more!

Have you always wanted to use Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup, but failed to find a shade that matched your skin-tone perfectly? New for Spring, Urban Decay has launched three new shades of this popular mineral foundation, to provide more of their fans with the perfect match!
I love mineral makeup–but hate the mess–so taking Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup out for a test-drive was such fun. This product has a versatile application method. Each canister has a twist open/shut top, to ensure you don’t lose any precious product in your purse! The built in applicator puff is actually attached to the mechanism, preventing excess product from dusting all over counter tops (my bathroom counters sometimes look like it’s snowed mineral makeup). I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dropped loose powder puffs into wet public sinks. Uck! Those days are over with an applicator like this! Hate the attached sponge? No sweat! Urban Decay knows versatility is key, so the puff is easily removable!
This talc-free, oil-free formula is also devoid of artificial dyes and fragrance… making it ideal for those prone to breakouts or with sensitive skin. The formula is also amazingly lightweight and breathable, so it’s perfect for people who want to even out their complexion but hate the feeling of liquid foundations.
New shades include: Nirvana (fair-light), Trance (medium) and Mirage (dark olive).
This product retails for $29 at Urban Decay, Beauty.com
and Sephora.com.

Spring 2008 beauty is similar to Fall 2007 in one way– brows are still a big focus. Tweezing and combing are just not enough to achieve a perfectly polished look, but this adorable kit from Urban Decay contains everything you could possibly need to get you to perfection.
The Brow Box comes with two shades of brow powder, a petite angled brow brush, a press-open drawer filled with brow wax, and the tiniest most effective steel tweezers you’ll ever lay your hands on. The wax is amazingly effective at keeping brows in place, and the option of two different brow powders keeps the look natural and glamorous. The gorgeous ornate box adorned with skulls is the perfect combination of tough and tender.
Warning! Once you see how terrific your brows can look, you’ll feel utterly naked if you don’t use this product every day!
Four shades are available to ensure a perfect match: Honey Pot (blonde), Gingersnap (auburn), Beige Betty (medium ash brown) and Brown Sugar (brunette).
