MAC In The Groove Swatches Above:  Soften The Mood Mineralize Eye Shadow Trio

Eons ago, I wrote a post entitled “The New Neutrals” (over three years ago!) where I explained how pastel blue shades work well with earthy shadow shades, without being too over-the-top.  MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow Trio in “Soften The Mood”–part of the recently-launched MAC In The Groove Collection–is a perfect example of this!  The pale baby-blue shade actually appears an almost icy-white when applied, with just a tiny hint of blue.

MAC In The Groove Swatches Above:  Calm, Cool & Collected Mineralize Eye Shadow Trio

Green-eyed girls, rejoice.  This silvery-cool trio of greens from light to dark will really call attention to your eyes.

MAC In The Groove Swatches Above:  Making It Easy Mineralize Eye Shadow Trio

The terracotta red neutrals in this trio work with any skin-tone.  I like to think of this trio as “bronzer for the lids”.  It’s perfect for the Summer season, and wins the title of “must-have” of all of the trios in this collection!

Retail price is $19.50 per eye shadow trio.

Both gloss shades provide buildable color and have a delicious ripe strawberry scent.  The scent appeals to my inner child, and the luxe minimalisting packaging speaks to my adult self.

I absolutely adore shadow quads.  When beauty brands pick the shades that compliment each other, it takes all of the guesswork out of makeup application!  I was thrilled when I recently sampled the Jean-Michelle Quartette Lumineux Eyeshadow Quad in Golden Fantaisie (swatches below).  This eyeshadow quad teams up a deep chocolate shade, a rusty warm bittersweet shade, an always-useful ivory and an edgy golden military green.  They’re neutral, but with a special twist to make them stand out in a sea of browns.

Jean-Michelle shadow is so silky and blendable, it made application seem a cinch (even with the darker shades).  The shadows in Golden Fantaisie are decidedly sophisticated, and the long-wearing formula makes it the perfect pick for any woman with a jam-packed calendar.

Retail price is $22.50 on Cosmetique.com.

Now and then, a makeup collection comes along that you want to be seen holding as well as seen wearing.  MAC Give Me Liberty Collection, launched in mid-March 2010, is the perfect example.  A collaboration with Liberty of London, the limited-edition packaging is white… an almost astonishing departure from MAC’s signature black.  The colors are fresh and vivid… such a great way to welcome in Spring!

Pictured above is my #1 must-have item from the Give Me Liberty collection.  MAC Beauty Powder in Shell Pearl is described as a pale peach with gold pearl on the MAC website.  This fresh-as-fruit shade of apricot is flattering to almost any complexion, and the color works for both Spring and Summer.

Retail price is $25.
