Victoria’s Secret Spa Body Scrub

Beauty, Beauty Blog, Beauty Blogger, Makeup, Cosmetics, Product Reviews, Makeup Reviews, Raging Rouge, This is perhaps dangerous information for me to reveal where it can be misused– specific packaging design and ingredients can cause me to spontaneously buy product as if in a trance.

I walked into Victoria’s Secret the other day with no intention of buying any beauty product.  In a store filled with wildly colored fruity scented bath and body product, I was immediately attracted to a tiny display of the comparatively bland in appearance spa collection.  For some reason, sleek and unassuming packaging always catches my eye more than the loud and obvious style of product like "Beauty Rush" pictured at left.

Then I read the label of the Body Scrub.  Sugar and Coffee Bean?  Coffee is my kryptonite.  I’m obsessed with coffee in every way, and love to buy beauty product containing coffee.  I grabbed the jar and headed to the register.

Beauty, Beauty Blog, Beauty Blogger, Makeup, Cosmetics, Product Reviews, Makeup Reviews, Raging RougeAt home, I was surprised this scrub smelled nothing like sugar or coffee.  It smelled of perfume, a somewhat negative surprise, but the scent was fresh and clean.  Victoria’s Secret Spa Intensive Body Scrub is powerful stuff.  Unlike gentle scrubs used on the face, this product means business.  It made my rough elbows and knees softer after only one use.

I purchased this product at full price ($18), but their entire Spa line is currently on sale for 50% off (ironically, they are likely changing the packaging)!  Sadly, their online store appears to be out of this product at the time of publication!  Be sure to check this one out in-store for $9, or snag another item from their Spa line!

Urban Decay Sparkly Sweet Body Powder, Marshmallow

iconiconI love Urban Decay Sparkly Sweet Body Powder in Marshmallow. It’s like dusting your body in powdered sugar. The scent is delicate- not overpowering.  This powder is just a hint of sweetness and blends well with any fragrance, so don’t be afraid to layer.

Men everywhere, rejoice! This powder even tastes sweet!

Korres Natural Products Showergel, Vanilla Cinnamon

iconiconUnlike the scent of the Basil Lemon version of this showergel, Korres Natural Products Vanilla Cinnamon Showergel is decidedly warm and soothing.  Perfect to use prior to bedtime, it smells as yummy as a concoction I’d pour into my morning latte.

My last post about Korres Natural Products neglected to mention the fact all of their products are stamped with an expiration date!  You won’t need to wonder if it’s time that you and your favorite Korres product part ways (as I wrote about in my post "Time To Purge?" back in April).  Similarly, when buying from a retailer, you can eyeball the date to determine just how long it has been sitting on the shelf.  Brilliant!

Smaller sizes of the Korres Natural Products I’ve reviewed up to now can all be found in The Best of Korres.  You would assume that this kit would be about $50, but it’s only $25!  It makes a great gift, or a treat for yourself.

Vanicream

iconMy dermatologist introduced me to Vanicream.  He sells the tube pictured at left for $8 in his office.  It’s a fantastic skin moisturizer free of dyes, fragrance, lanolin, formaldehyde and parabens.  Vanicream can be used on both the face and body.

What a sucker I was, buying it for $8!  Drugstore.com sells it for $5.99 and also stocks the sunscreen version of the product.  DERMAdoctoricon sells it for $5.95!

The manufacturers of Vanicream–PSI Pharmaceutical Specialties Inc.–have a fantastic resource on their site.  It’s a list of common chemical irritants found in beauty products.  A great resource.

Korres Natural Products Showergel, Basil Lemon

iconiconMy 21-month-old son woke earlier than most farmers one day last week.  He refused to get back to sleep, even in bed with dear Mom.  That morning, even the strongest coffee couldn’t give me the extra energy I needed.

Then I popped into the shower.  The scent of this citrusy shower gel had an effect on me reminiscent of old "Irish Spring" commercial.  My eyes popped wide-open upon pouring it into my hand.

I admit, Korres Basil Lemon Showergel is not a miraculous energy delivery system, but the zesty smell certainly did give me a pick me up!  The foamy cleanser left my skin feeling refreshed and soft.  The gentle citrus scent lingered for hours afterward.

Recently acquainted with Korres Natural Productsicon through sampling their Guava Body Butter (read my product review of Korres Guava Body Butter HERE), I had no idea what a gem I had stumbled upon.  The Korres mission is to provide "safe, effective and natural products by broadly avoiding synthetic components".  Ironically, despite avoiding some synthetic components that are widely used because they are so inexpensive, Korres Natural Products are reasonably priced.  A large bottle of Korres Natural Products Showergel, Basil Lemon is only $11.

Korres Guava Body Butter

iconiconI’m pretty sure I’ve never eaten Guava, and yet something about the scent of this decadent body cream conjures memories of vacationing in a tropical paradise.

Guava doesn’t just smell great, it’s known as a strong anti-oxidant and a great natural moisturizer.  This body butter proves the healing benefits of Guava, on both the skin and the senses.  It quickly softens the skin- working wonders on dry knees and elbows.  It also put me in a positive state of mind!

Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Creme

Beauty, Beauty Blog, Beauty Blogger, Makeup, Cosmetics, Product Reviews, Makeup Reviews, Raging Rouge, iconWith sandal season quickly approaching, it’s time to pay some extra attention to the toes that have been languishing under leather boots all winter.

A reader of Raging Rouge insisted that I review some Burt’s Bees product, so I chose the Coconut Foot Creme.  It smells deliciously tropical, and worn under socks overnight it works wonders on softening the skin.

Peter Thomas Roth Ultimate Body Sculpting Slimming Gel

Beauty, Beauty Blog, Beauty Blogger, Makeup, Cosmetics, Product Reviews, Makeup Reviews, Raging Rouge, iconIf someone offered to sell you a magical potion that would help slim you down… would you buy it?  I think most women would answer yes to this question.  The funny part is, when companies claim their product can actually do such a thing, we don’t believe it.

I was skeptical when I first started using Peter Thomas Roth Ultimate Body Sculpting Slimming Gel.  How could I not be?  According to Peter Thomas Roth, this product generated near-miraculous results after 60 days, including:

  • Buttock circumference:   15% of the patients showed a decrease of .78 to 1 inch and 60% decreased .19 to .39 inches.
  • Thigh circumference:  85% showed a decrease of .19 to .39 inches while skin elasticity increased 17% after 30 days and 24.5% after 60 days.
  • Skin hydration:  Increased 9.5%.
  • "Orange peel type" skin:  75% had an improvement and one third of those had a fairly good improvement.
  • Presence of nodules:  95% showed the condition improved and 65% finished with smoother skin.
    • So I approached this product scientifically.  Three weeks ago, I weighed in and measured my stomach and hips prior to using the product.  After three weeks of use, I weighed in again, and my weight changed by +0.8 lbs.  Despite the fact that I was nearly 1 pound heavier, my stomach and hips each measured 1" smaller.  I couldn’t notice the difference just by looking at myself, but I was able to fit comfortably into a smaller size jean that I had purchased with my fingers crossed weeks before using this product.  This magical concoction actually seems to work!  Well worth the $100 pricetag, it’s the perfect purchase to get ready for the summer!  Click on the image below to purchase the product.  Shipping will be free if you buy through Beauty.com!

Peter Thomas Roth Botanical Oasis Body Wash

When my son was a newborn, and I would sit up with him in the wee hours of the morning in a semi-delirious sleep-deprived state, my thoughts would drift to my favorite day spa.  It seemed so long ago that I had been able to indulge myself in such a luxury.  A 90 minute massage…  A body scrub and masque…  I would practically drool, so strong was my desire for pampering.

If only I had Peter Thomas Roth Botanical Oasis Body Wash at the time.  The use of the word “oasis” in the product name is more than appropriate.  This body wash is like a 5 minute visit to a day spa, but in the convenience of your own home.  The luxurious lather softens the skin, and leaves a faint heavenly scent that even reminds me of my favorite spa.  They call the scent “red tea and bergamot”, I just call it yummy.
