Since I boldly proclaimed MAC Spring Colour Forecast 4 as my favorite of the bunch… I figured it made sense for me to begin my makeup reviews here!  The top image is from MAC, of the entire collection.  The photo below it is mine, of the products that I sampled.  I’ll state it plainly… I love each and every one of these four products, and recommend them ALL highly!

The Eyeshadow x4 compact contains the following (starting from top left):  Manila Paper (pale frosted white gold), Flip (bronze gold), Aztec Brick (frosted true copper) and Creole Beauty (frosted dark golden brown).  My favorite way to apply these shadows is as follows:  1)  Apply Manila Paper on lids, 2)  Apply Flip from crease up to browbone, 3)  Apply Aztec Brick in crease and 4)  Use Creole Beauty as an accent (upper and lower lashline).  This shadow quad has quickly become my “go-to” Spring makeup pick for its versatility (skip the darker shades for a more casual look, or use them for more drama).  I also LOVE the magnetic closure on the palette!

The latest limited-edition introduction by MAC is a smash hit.  The gradient design of Blush Ombre in Springshine makes the product so versatile!  Swirl it to use as a bronzer, or just for a touch of tan on the cheeks.  Or, use the darker section for contouring, and the paler section for highlighting!  Either way, you end up with a sun-kissed look that is most welcome!

Retail price is $25 for Springshine Blush Ombre, and $36 for Eye Shadow x4 Colour 4.

Even MAC describes the shade as “very bright iridescent fuchsia”.  LOVE the shade, but it’s definitely something you wear to a club, and skip for the PTA meeting!

Retail price is 18.50.  Full Fuchsia Powder Blush swatch is below.

Spring 2010, MAC Riveting, MAC Spring Makeup, Riveting Swatches, Photos, Reviews, Makeup Reviews, Beauty Blog, Product Reviews

Grab it while you can, beauties… because MAC’s limited-edition “Riveting” collection is scheduled to be pulled from shelves in mid-March!

The inspiration for this succinct collection of MAC makeup?  Edgy, rock-n-roll beauties from the 80s.  Did MAC manage to capture that glamour in this collection?  I’ll let you be the judge.  Below (borrowed with thanks from Amazon.com) is an image of Berlin’s “Pleasure Victim” album cover, circa 1983.  Tell me that the makeup on lead-singer Terri Nunn doesn’t look like it was created with some of the makeup I photographed, above?

Bright, almost-neon lips, cheeks with an other-worldly flush, and makeup that looks anything but natural were the style.  Oh, how I’ve missed it and love seeing it again!  Stay tuned.  The next few posts will focus on the collection in more depth.

From the heartbreaker collection (full collection photo is above), smashbox has introduced Fusion Soft Lights in Baked Starlight (left).  This recently-launched shade combines deep pink, pale pink, a white highlighter and a peachy-bronze into a delightful candy-inspired combination.  It’s officially a must-have for the deeper flush of cheek that is so popular this Spring!

avon smooth minerals blush review, avon review, makeup review, makeup blog, beauty blog, beauty reviewAvailable in 8 different shades, this inexpensive ($10!) loose-powder mineral blush creates buildable color, so you can swipe once for day-wear, and then add to it for some evening drama.  This versatility is so useful during the holiday season, when so many of us dash from the office directly to a party!

Each blush is clinically and dermatologically tested to be suitable for sensitive skin (a welcome fact for any rosacea sufferers who may be reading this).  The sifter was recently redesigned so there’s less counter-top mess (and less product wasted).

They’re at it again!  Just when I think Benefit has completely drained the well of shade ideas for their fabulous face powders, they manage to create yet another favorite!

Or, should I say FOUR favorites?  That’s right.  This tiny box contains four shimmery shades in a harlequin pattern, one a pinkish bronze (bottom), two shades of pink (top and right) and one peach (left).  Swirled together, the combination of the four is an enchanting, glowy candy-coated shade that is to die for.  And what better way to make yourself look delicious for that romantic Valentine’s Day date?

Retail price is $28.

tarte Review: Holiday 2009, Three Carats Mini Cheek Stain Set

After last year’s holiday collection, I waited with bated breath to see if tarte would release an update of their giftable collection of cult-status cheek stains.

I wasn’t disappointed!  This year, tarteupped the ante with this bling-encrusted cheek stain set!  Each shade is named after a different diamond shape:  brilliant- a shimmering champagne, princess- a shimmering rose and cushion- a shimmery deep apricot.  The shades included in this value set are universally flattering, making it a wonderful gift choice!

As always, tarte cheek stains are infused with tarte’s proprietary t5 superfruit complex, a natural anti-aging cocktail!

Retail price is $25.
