Blonde and Redhead Mineralize Skinfinish, MAC Naturally

When I was first introduced to this Blonde and Redhead, I fell totally in love! No, they aren’t two stunningly gorgeous guys, they are MAC Mineralize Skinfinish blushes! Originally part of the Blonde, Brunette, Redhead collection I wrote about three years ago (almost to the day), they are now back! I greet them with the open arms of a friend! [Read more...]

Gaiety Blush, NARS Spring 2012

The hottest makeup colors for Spring and Summer 2012 will be super-bright. My personal opinion is the trendiest look of all will be the uber-bright, almost-neon lip, but many will be too gun-shy to give that a whirl. Those of us more comfortable with a pop of color on the cheek will choose shades like NARS Gaiety, one of the blushes from the NARS Spring 2012 makeup collection. [Read more...]

Too Chic Beauty Powder, Iris Apfel for MAC

I have extremely fair skin, so while I love many of MAC’s Beauty Powders, many of them are basically used as blushes. [Read more...]

MAC In The Abstract Highlighter

In the abstract highlighter, makeup inspired by artists

Last year, I volunteered to teach my son’s kindergarten class about some of the art world’s greats. Our first lesson was a very fun–and very messy–delve into the techniques of Jackson Pollock. Each child had the opportunity to splatter, drip and dribble paint onto a gigantic canvas on the floor, in the style utilized by Jackson himself. [Read more...]

MAC Cream Colour Base in Seaside

Rose Gold–a shade shunned by fashionistas for decades–is now the smokin’ hot shade for Fall!  If you’re a fan of this pinkish gold shade, check out MAC Cream Colour Base in Seaside.  This multi-use color cosmetic can be dabbed on the cheekbones, eyelids… wherever you wish!  Although–bummer–some shades are not recommended for use on the lips and this happens to be one of them. MAC Headroom

MAC Headroom, Art of Powder, Optical Bronzer

I’m a child of the 80s, and love all that is 80s.  Yet, I’ll admit I never really got the whole “Max Headroom” thing.  Those of you my age certainly remember his bizarre presence in the Coca Cola commercials of that era.

MAC’s Optical Bronzer, from the Art of Powder collection, immediately reminded me of the backgrounds utilized while Max would speak in his halting voice… his angular face jerking this way and that.  What was that skin/hair-do he had going on?

For those of you WAY too young to even know what I’m talking about, here’s the coke commercial.

Anyway… back to the makeup!  This 80s new-wave optical pattern features a neon pink/gold pearl stiped pattern.  The product is referred to as a bronzer, and I was a bit skeptical when I saw all of this bright pink mixed in!  But the neon pink and gold blend together to create a unique coral-hued bronze with a matte finish.

Estee Lauder Illuminating Powder Gelee

estee lauder illuminating powder gelee

When I was pregnant… people often complimented me on my “glow”.  Between you and I, I had no pregnancy glow at all.  I simply used a gel-based highlighter much like this version by Estee Lauder!  Estee Lauder Illuminating Powder Gelee is perhaps the most coveted limited-edition item from the recently released Modern Mercury makeup collection for Fall 2011.  As you would expect, this shade adds a metallic bronze sheen to the skin, with a touch of youthful peach.  It’s the ultimate warm-toned highlighter of the season. Dr. Dennis Gross All-In-One Tinted Moisturizer Sunscreen SPF 15

I’ve been a big fan of tinted moisturizers this Summer. But I have to say… finding the right one for your skin-tone is as tricky as selecting a foundation!

If your skin tends to be a wee bit orange, you’ll like Dr. Dennis Gross All-In-One Tinted Moisturizer Sunscreen SPF 15 in light/medium. This tinted moisturizer actually provides more coverage than most, and blends to a delightful tan/coral shade. For me, this shade simply doesn’t work.  I’m way too pale!  Despite the name “light/medium”, I personally think someone with solidly medium skin-tone would do quite nicely with this product… plus, it has an SPF15!

What do you think… is it a winner for you?

Semi-Precious Mineralize Skinfinish

Where my friends were concerned, it was MAC lipstick that launched a long-term love affair with the brand. So many of my girls carried a tube at all times, quite devotedly!

I was a bit of a late adopter, I suppose.  While I liked MAC, the brand truly earned my allegiance when it launched Mineralize Skinfinish. This mineral-infused formula (it contains 77 skin-loving minerals) isn’t like the typical pressed powder. It leaves the skin looking positively luminous. The formula never looks dry or flat, or settles in the pores! [Read more...]
