Time to EASE into the weekend, makeup lovers! What better way for me to celebrate the end of a long week? I’m wrapping up my coverage of MAC Riveting with these swatches of their matte nail lacquer! MAC Riveting includes three shades of nail lacquer with a matte finish! In each image, the colors are as follows from left to right: Black Enough, Wham Bam Glam, and Studded.

If you’re a woman with an edgy side, matte nail lacquer is for you! This was my first time sampling nail enamel with a matte finish. I must say, after years of wearing high-gloss polish, the matte look is quite captivating! It’s all about the unexpected.
Retail price is $12 per bottle. Formula is free of DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde (yay MAC)!

I could just kick myself! About a year ago, I purchased a lipstick-red Lenovo netbook! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the thing. Then I recently stumbled upon this exclusive relationship between OPI and Dell! Yes, you can actually match your laptop to your manicure! A few of my favorite OPI shades are included among the select group of 26 lacquer shade possibilities. Now I've got a serious case of buyers remorse. I really wish I needed a laptop!

If you’re tacking the task of last-minute holiday shopping, skip the pilgrimage to the mega-mall! You need only stop by the beauty department in Kohl’s for some fabulous gift-worthy finds.

Flirtatious: A girly, sweet formula perfect for date night!
Glamourazzi: This warm, powdery vanilla just screams “LUXE”!
Flowerific: This spirit-lifting floral is the perfect way to contrast a dreary Winter day.
Pick one favorite? Why would you do such a thing? Retail price is $35 for the set of three.

If I were forced at gunpoint to choose one beauty brand that simply gets “it” and nails beauty trends months before they fully evolve, it would have to be Estee Lauder. Case in point is the Ultimate Red Holiday Color Collection. Makeup lovers mark my words… if you don’t own rich reds for your lips and glittering golds for just about everywhere else, you are totally missing the boat.
The entire limited-edition holiday collection contains:

Rich warm berries, dark chestnuts and a blacker-than-Christmas-stocking-coal gel eyeliner (the gel eyeliner is a rich, smudgy formula… I am hooked. Others apparently are too, as the product is sold out online!)
New, Limited Edition Signature Eyeshadow Quad in Lavish Plum $35.00
New, Limited Edition Signature Lipstick in Cranberry $19.50
New, Limited Edition Signature Lipstick in Blackberry $19.50
New, Limited Edition Opulent Shimmer Gloss in Cranberry $18.00
New, Limited Edition Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Burgundy $18.00

In-your-face reds, deep almost-black navy, and… need I say, gold, Gold, GOLD!
New, Limited Edition Signature Eyeshadow Quad in Gold Opulence $35.00
New, Limited Edition Signature Lipstick in Gold $19.50
New, Limited Edition Signature Lipstick in Simply Red $19.50
New, Limited Edition Opulent Shimmer Gloss in Gold $18.00
New, Limited Edition Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Gold $18.00

Estee Lauder leverages their TurboLash Mascara technology with this holiday red packaging, and shimmery golden hue! I’ve always loved mascaras of varying colors, but must admit that using gold mascara is a new experience! Used stand-alone, it’s a subtle shimmer. Layer atop your favorite shade and this adds razzle dazzle.
New, Limited Edition TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara in Gold $32.00

The coup de grace of the Ultimate Red Collor collection is the limited-edition Opulent Shimmer Powder. Housed in the glossiest golden compact of the season, this powder imparts a warm, shimmery glow.

Launched this Fall by Avon, this new shade of Nail Wear Pro is a favorite for the Fall and Winter months. There’s something so appealing to me about this muddy, muted, ashy shade of taupe nail color.
Nocturnal is a shade that goes well with everything. It’s deep enough to stand out, without being flashy. It’s dark enough to be a great pick for a pedi, if you’re planning a beach escape sometime this Winter.
Of course, at a mere $5 a bottle, this acrylic enriched nail enamel is a great pick for those on a budget. No formaldehyde, toluene or phthalates!

Some people surely think I'm crazy, dedicating a blog to beauty products. The truth is, it isn't such a lonely niche! There are hundreds–perhaps even thousands–writing their own beauty blogs! I am honored to be among them, (and relieved to find many other makeup-obsessed individuals are out there)!
Among beauty bloggers, however, are writers even more specialized. One such blogger is Michelle Mismas, the writer of All Lacquered Up. Michelle writes about nail enamel, 24/7! Talk about dedication and extreme focus!
When Barielle was looking for a blogger to collaborate with on their latest collection, Michelle was the logical choice. Together, Barielle and Michelle have developed a collection of 12 new shades for Fall and Winter. From classic, to sleek, to super-trendy… all of your color needs are in this collection!
Retail price is $8 per bottle at Barielle.com. All of the polishes in this collection are "Big 3 Free" (free of Formaldehyde, Toluene and DBP). Here are some swatches for your viewing pleasure (horrible cuticles have been cropped out to protect the innocent).
 |
Lava Rock: A frosty eggplant shade.
|
 |
Make It A Latte: A super-chic frosty brown. A must-have for urban dwellers, or women who just want to look city-sleek.
|
 |
Slate Of Affairs: This greyish blue isn't the blue polish you wore in the 80s. I love this muted-blue shade so much, it was the first lacquer I sampled!
|
 |
U Concrete Me: This shade of slate gray screams ice princess.
|
 |
Pin Up: A bright, frosty red is the exact shade of a candy apple and equally delicious. |
Barielle Nail Lacquer Product Review: Fall 2009
October 22, 2009
in Nails

I'm a bit of a "soccer Mom" type, but one beauty product I can still go wild with is Nail Lacquer. Go crazy on the pedicure, and it can always be concealed with a good shoe.
I'm loving edgy shades like MAC Seriously Hip Nail Lacquer, part of the Style Black collection. The black base of the lacquer combined with the sparkle of gold almost give it a toxic green appearance with a metallic sheen. It's unusual, and rebellious! Even we soccer Moms need a touch of individuality, on occasion.
Don't forget, MAC Nail Lacquer is free of DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde! Retail price is $12.

I love Red.
I own Red cars, the notebook computer I am using is red, the camera I want is red… the list goes on and on. So when I first spied this bottle of MAC Nail Lacquer from the Nail Trend collection (named "Dance All Night"), I was immediately smitten. Here's how the conversation went with my son:
ME: Oh… My… God…
FOUR YEAR OLD SON: What?
ME: Is this the most gorgeous color you have ever seen?
FOUR YEAR OLD SON: (Contemplates bottle) Yeah, that sure is a nice shade of dark red!
My son, a burgeoning artist, certainly appreciated the color. Only days later, when I had my first mani/pedi opportunity, I toted this polish with me. Sure… I am totally rushing the season a bit, but I had to see how this looked on my nails, asap!
This luxe brick red (a deep, brownish-red shade) is a beautiful accompaniment to any Fall wardrobe. Not only is MAC Nail Lacquer free of DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde… but it is also long-wearing! A must for busy-women who don't have time for chipped nails.

For your reading pleasure, here's the text of a Q&A with Jin Soon on this masterful collaboration:
Q: M·A·C and Jin Soon – it feels like such a natural match for your first-ever brand collaboration. How did the collaboration come about?
A: It was important to me to partner with a brand that embraced bold trend-driven colours and had a strong tie to fashion – and M·A·C is all about that. From the beginning with M·A·C, everything flowed naturally, and there was a real connection in the development of this collection. As soon as we started working together, I was able to unleash my vision and really express myself through these fashion-forward colours. M·A·C really got the direction I was going in and encouraged me throughout the whole process.
Q: What was first on the agenda with this collaboration?
A: I’ve opened three Jin Soon Hand and Foot Spas in New York City over the last 10 years, with that I have a direct connection and knowledge about the colours and textures real women want for their nails. In the past couple of years women have forgone beige, neutral colors and instead, opted for colours that were once thought of as experimental, shades only a celebrity or model would wear – I’m talking about blues, blacks and deep purples. Now, women are pushing the envelope even further when it comes to nail colours. I wanted to take that one step further and expand the colour range with this collection, giving women even bolder nail colour choices.
Q: Mission accomplished with these colours – what helped inspire the range?
A: My husband is an architect, and I am constantly drawing inspiration and colour ideas from his creations.
I also have tons of exposure to fashion trends through my work at the fashion shows and on magazine shoots. I wanted to create colours that were not only incredibly fashion-forward and edgy, with an editorial feel to them but also were totally wearable for the everyday women. I love all of the colours but am especially excited about the green hues: Dry Martini and Beyond Jealous. I think come Fall ‘09, green is going to be THE colour.
Q: Beyond Jealous is the green shade we saw on the models nails at the Doo.Ri Fall/Winter 2009 show?
A: Yes, straight from the runway. Doo.Ri wanted a strong, tough look to go with her collection so that’s how we chose the colour. The green on the nails made a strong statement and was the perfect compliment to her collection. It looked beautiful.

Something I've never mentioned on Raging Rouge is that I am actually obsessed with more that just makeup. In fact, I am currently way too interested in monitoring this train-wreck of an economy, and the stock market in particular.
Interestingly, knowing a thing or two about the market can actually tip you off on trends in fashion and makeup. I've been watching the price of gold tick higher and ever-higher, and realized that since scarcity=status, Gold is going to be smokin' hot this season.
Personally, trends be damned, I've always preferred gold over platinum. There's something timeless and treasured about the yellow metal, so I was thrilled to see Estee Lauder embrace the trend, with their new color collection for Fall 2009, Sensuous Gold.

Estee Lauder Signature 5-Tone Shimmer Powder for Eyes, Cheeks Face: This product is truly addictive. It adds a radiance to the skin that is just other-worldly. If a limited budget prevents you from buying more than one item from this collection, this versatile product should be your choice! Retail price $36.

Two new Limited Edition Pure Color Multi-Shimmer Glosses: Rose Gold and Rose Amethyst. Three gloss shades stacked from dark to light provide shimmery, multi-dimensional color. Retail Price $18.
