estee lauder pure color gloss, star pink, swatches, reviews, makeup reviews blog

At this point, I’ve sampled many shades of Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss… and seriously love EACH ONE.  Makeup Mavens can tell Tom Pecheux’s team at Estee Lauder put careful consideration into which gloss colors were modern and classic enough to make the cut.

My latest favorite from the Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss collection is pictured above:  Star Pink.  Introduced as part of the Blue Dahlia Fall 2010 collection, Star Pink was part of the “Surreal Violet” makeup look.  This shade is a lighter-than-air sheer pink.  Terrific to wear on its own for a natural look, it’s also my “go to” gloss for layering over lipstick.

The non-sticky formula and sweet Estee Lauder signature fig scent are helping this gloss win the hearts of beauty addicts everywhere!

Retail price is $20.

Word on the street is that the Sephora Friends and Family 2010 discount will start on October 21, 2010.  The promotional code is still unknown at this point, but based on the codes used in prior years it’s an educated guess that FF2010 will likely be the discount code!

The Sephora Friends and Family discount is generally 20% off, but you never know if Sephora will be more generous this year!  Start working on that holiday gift list!

In the meanwhile, if you’re looking for a hot deal, be sure to check out the SALE section. Among the smokin’ hot deals I spotted are:

  • A Pucci Vivara Rollerball for $10 (original price of $25),
  • Sephora Favorites LashStash Mascara for $27 (original price of $39),
  • Stila Paint Your Pout Red Palette for $15 (original price $45),
  • Philosophy The Supernatural Mascara for $12 (original price $22),
  • Urban Decay Smoke Out Kit for $15 (original price $34),
  • tarte Miss Fix-It Palette for $22 (original price $44),
  • Korres Sugar & Spice Set for $8 (original price $18) and
  • Cosmedicine Speedy Recovery Acne Treatment System for $24 (original price $48).

I’m a bargain-hunter, at my core.  Rather than purchase inexpensive products on an as-needed basis like some frugalistas, I prefer to stock up on luxe bargains… striking like a cobra when I spot a great deal.

The Close Up Eye Tutorial Kit by LORAC is a perfect example of the type of deal I’m always on the prowl to purchase.  For only $36, this value kit has a retail value of $110 if you were to buy each item individually.  Unlike some value sets that offer discounts on outlandish shades, LORAC Close Up Eye Tutorial Kit contains must-have/frequently-used beauty products for eye makeup application.  The set includes a Behind the Scenes Eye Primer, Starry-Eyed Baked Eye Shadow Trio in Movie Star, Special Effects Mascara in Black, Front of the Line PRO Eyeliner in Black and Double Ended Blending/ Smudging Brush.

Perhaps my favorite aspect of this kit is the enclosed eye makeup application tutorial, with Carol Shaw’s own step-by-step instructions on how to apply her fabulous products. I’ll admit, I’ve followed Carol’s four-step instructions to achieve a “Natural Eye”, and LOVE the result. It’s truly a gorgeous and easy to achieve look for daytime.

But, if you’re the type who frequently heads out for drinks after work, you’ll love Close Up all the more! Tote your kit with you to work, and flip the manual’s page from “Natural Eye” to either “Sexy Cat Eye” or “Signature Smokey Eye” to build upon your original look for evening fun!

Retail price for the LORAC Close Up Eye Tutorial Kit is $36.

liz earle energising body scrub reviewAs my baby graduated to toddler, and my pre-schooler graduated to big-kid, I assumed I’d feel more well-rested and energetic.  Not so!  This full-time Mom is perpetually exhausted, and looks for any and every healthy way to give her energy level a boost.

Enter stage left:  Liz Earle Energising Body Scrub.  Scented with nine essential oils (sweet orange, grapefruit, geranium, peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary, pine, patchouli and petitgrain), the scent is positively invigorating and really helps me to open my eyes in the morning.

Unlike some scrubs that can be messy and clumpy, Liz Earle’s Energising Body Scrub comes in a no-mess tube, and keeps application neat!  The formula is easily worked into a rich emulsion, so a tiny bit of scrub goes a long way.

This scrub effectively removes dead/dry skin, and leaves the body feeling silky.  I am hooked!

A generously sized 6.7 fl. oz. tube retails for $24, and a travel sized 1.6 fl. oz tube retails for $10.

carol's daughter hair milk collection

Many don’t realize it, but I have naturally wavy hair.  Not sure if you’ve noticed, but curls are slowly making a comeback!  The ladies on the red carpet are ditching the pin-straight locks in favor of long, breezy, wavy tresses.  Inspired by them, I decided to give my hair a break from my heat styling binge and re-embrace what nature gave me for a couple of weeks.

Of course, this pledge to go curly meant I needed to switch product!  Curly-tops need light-weight shampooing and conditioning, like Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk collection!  Designed to condition without weighing down the hair, the Hair Milk conditioner also happens to be incredible for removing the tangles that plague a curly-head.  Done cleansing?  Top off your damp hair with Hair Milk Lite, a curl-boosting lotion that also helps tame frizz.  I couldn’t have gone wavy without these!

These products are paraben-free, petroleum, mineral oil and articifial color free.

Hair Milk Curl Perfecting Shampoo- $16, Hair Milk Curl Perfecting Conditioner- $19 and Hair Milk Lite, The Curl Booster- $9-20.

h2o+ 10 minute mattifying mud mask reviewI’ve been using the H2O+ Sea Clear 10-Minute Mattifying Mud Mask for months now, since I first mentioned the “Sea Clear” collection by H2O+ as a perfect gift for Dad.  Today, I’m singing its praises yet again!

H2O+ Sea Clear 10-Minute Mattifying Mud Mask is one of the most effective oil-reduction masks I’ve ever had the pleasure to sample.  I generally use it only on my oily t-zone.  Upon application, a slight tingle indicates the product is working.  After 10 minutes, wash it off even if the mud isn’t dry.  Natural Kaolin Clay absorbs oil, and Mushroom Extract helps to clean and tighten pores.  Skin looks instantly refreshed and less shiny!  The results are incredible!

Retail price is $25 for a 3.5 fl. oz. tube.

When it comes to offering breadth and depth of selection, Make Up For Ever means business.  This Fall–as more and more makeup mavens are ditching glosses for lipstick–Make Up For Ever has launched Rouge Artist Intense.  Pigment is this product’s claim to fame, as the formula contains 50% more pigment than a traditional lipstick.

The Rouge Artist Intense collection contains three different finishes and 50 different shades, including golds, pinks, nudes, reds, purples and even black!  Not sure which shade would flatter you most?  Make Up For Ever has developed the coolest shade-finder tool that can be found in-store at Sephora or online at Sephora.com.  Based on your hair and skin color, the shade-finder wheel will narrow down this enormous selection to a few choices that would work best for you!

Retail price is $19 per lipstick.  For a perfect application, the brand offers Lip Brush #3N for $18.

mac digi-dazzle collection fall 2010

MAC Cosmetics Fall 2010 lineup thus far is dazzling to the extreme! Digi-Dazzle, a limited-edition collection of Dazzle Lipsticks, contains 13 different shades of lipstick that glitter like no other!

I sampled two lipsticks from the collection, photographed above: Hellraiser (left) and Naughty You (right).

Clearly, these lipstick shades aren’t intended for office wear!  Dazzle Lipstick is a great choice for parties or other fun events, and not only because they are playful!  This formula is long-wearing in a most-impressive way!
