Things I Buy From Sephora Over And Over

press-sampleI have fallen a bit behind with blogging, and while I’m working on bringing in some more new fall and holiday items for you to check out, I decided to post about some of my tried-and-true favorites when I’m shopping at Sephora. Some of these items I’ve received as press samples in the past, but I’ve replenished them over, and over, and over again!

Things I buy from Sephora over and over

Rather than feature what’s NEW in the beauty industry, I decided to feature some of my tried-and-true favorite products that I’ve purchased over and over again at Sephora. Some of these started off as press samples, but at this point I assure you I’ve spent a pretty penny of my own money on replenishment, because they were that awesome!

1) Klorane Shampoo With Mango Butter is ideal for my very dry hair, and the formula doesn’t irritate my scalp the way some shampoos do! I even pack some to bring with me on vacations. (Retail price $20)

2) Klorane Conditioning Balm With Mango Butter is the perfect match for the shampoo above, and leaves hair feeling super soft, healthy, and tangle-free! (Retail price $16)

3) Make Up For Ever Kohl Pencil delivers a soft, smoky look. I originally sampled them in a MEGA holiday value set (that I wish the brand would offer again–fingers crossed) and have replenished them many times over! I love these pencils in every color! (Retail price $18)

4) Algenist Repairing Tint & Radiance Moisturizer SPF 30 is one of my favorite multi-tasking foundations. This medium-coverage tinted moisturizer delivers a dewy finish, anti-aging ingredients, and sun protection at the same time! (Retail price $42)

5) Bobbi Brown Corrector is my long-time favorite under eye concealer. The slightly orange hue cancels out blue undereye circles like a champ. (Retail price $27)

6) Lancôme Definicils Waterproof Mascara delivers natural-looking long lashes that pass my “waterslide test” with flying colors. (Retail price $27.50)

7) Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette was originally a holiday offering, but this trio of complexion perfecting powders was such a hit, it’s been available ever since! I’ve purchased refills for myself, and have even given this as a gift I love it so much. (Retail price $62)

8) Philosophy Purity Made Simple is my go-to cleanser/makeup remover that’s a great balance between performance and price. Skin is left feeling clean and balanced. (Retail price $24 for 8 oz)

9) Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral is the perfect touch-up for those who need to reapply SPF before heading out in the afternoon. I’ve been buying this for so many years, I’ve lost count! (Retail price $30)

10) Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover is another product that delivers great performance for a steal. This formula easily removes even waterproof eye makeup, and costs much less than similar products. (Retail price $11)

11) Clinique Broad Spectrum SPF50 Sunscreen wears beautifully under makeup, doesn’t look pasty white, and protects the skin so well! I’ve tried dozens of high-end sunblocks, but this is my favorite among them to wear under makeup, or stand-alone. (Retail price $23)

12) NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer became an instant favorite the first time I used it. This product delivers more coverage than the average tinted moisturizer, but still looks natural and “barely-there”. It’s ideal for daytime wear, or for a day at the beach! (Retail price $44)

13) Kate Somerville Exfolikate Body might be intended for all-over body use, but I also use this physical/chemical scrub on my t-zone to clear and refine pores. (Retail price $65)

These items can all be purchased from Sephora.com and many other beauty retailers. To read my individual reviews on each, click the hyperlinks above!

Some of the products mentioned above have been received as press samples in the past, but all have been re-purchased by me with my own money. Please click HERE to read my full disclosure.

Smashbox Color Correcting Sticks

Smashbox Color Correcting Stick

Smashbox Color Correcting Stick

press-sampleWhile color correcting concealers are all the rage, the concept is not really new.  In fact, I have been writing for quite some time about the magical effect an orange-hued concealer has on the undereye area, and how yellow and green concealers are great to neutralize both acne and rosacea.  The idea of owning more than one concealer shade is now mainstream, and the new Smashbox Color Correcting Stick collection contains four different shades of concealer to highlight, contour, brighten, and even the complexion.  If you’re looking to build out your own concealer collection, take a look at these creamy concealer sticks!  They apply easily, blend beautifully, and have a unique formula that can even be applied wet!

Smashbox Color Correcting Sticks Swatches

Smashbox Color Correcting Sticks are available in four shades: lavender, orange, green, and peach.  Each shade specifically nullifies unwanted complexion colors.  Not sure which you require?  Here’s a handy little guide for you!

  • Lavender (Don’t Be Dull):  Brightens dullness for all complexions (cancels out sallow or yellow tones)
  • Orange (Look Less Tired–Dark):  Undereye perfection for darker complexions!  Orange hued concealers are the ultimate camouflage for dark blue-hued under-eye circles.
  • Green (Get Less Red):  Cancels redness!  This is your secret weapon to hide that zit, or neutralize rosacea.
  • Peach (Look Less Tired–Light):  Undereye perfection for lighter complexions!
Smashbox Color Correcting Stick Sharpener

Smashbox Color Correcting Stick Sharpener

I’m a fan of the crayon format.  It allows for both precise application and portability.  These slender sticks also don’t take up much space in your makeup bag, so toting multiple shades doesn’t waste your precious real estate!  Each stick comes with its very own sharpener.  The Smashbox Color Correcting Stick is a great tool to achieve that flawless complexion you crave!

Don’t forget if you sign up for the Smashbox newsletter you’ll get a promo code for 15% off of your first online order!

Retail price is $23 per stick.  Click HERE to buy yours at Smashbox.com. Other retailers include Sephora, Macys.com and Ulta.

How To Build A Concealer Wardrobe

beauty blog, makeup blog, product reviews blog, beauty reviews blogAs someone who has immersed themselves in the world of beauty, I feel like I am able to predict many trends before they become mainstream. One I really didn’t expect, however, was that concealer would suddenly be so sexy. Why has this happened? It’s all about contouring and cooking. I can’t think of anyone not curious about these techniques, and how they can magically transform your appearance. While I’m not big on contouring, I’ve owned multiple concealers for different purposes over the years.  Allow me to introduce you to some new ones!

This Anti-Aging Face Primer is $34 and delivers moisture to the skin while perfecting the canvas for your makeup application. No synthetic dyes, parabens, or sulfates are used in this product!

These Amazing Cosmetics Perfection Sticks are great to use as a one-stop-shop.  For those with a wardrobe of concealers, the pencil shape makes it easy to apply to tough spots, like the creases of the nose and chin.  These are also super for highlighting the upper cheekbone with a lighter color, or contouring with a deeper shade. If you’re looking to buy just one concealer, this formula is versatile enough to use just about anywhere. Retail price is $23.

When it comes to concealing under the eyes, I always use a product with a bit of an orange hue, like this Becca Under Eye Corrector from Ulta Beauty.  This shade cancels the blueness that makes you look tired and old.  It’s instantly eye opening! Retail price is $29.

Smashbox 24 Hour CC Spot Concealer, Light Blended

The older I get, the more I expect my product to multi-task.  That’s the beauty of this Smashbox 24 Hour CC Spot Concealer.  First you apply it to dark spots and blend.  The finish is a natural looking, semi-matte.  As you wear it, the formula works to reduce the look of those pesky dark spots!  I’m in love! Retail price is $25.

Stowaway Makeup Review

Press SampleIt seems like lifetimes ago, but I was once a road-warrior. Trust me, those of us flying regularly deserve to use the term “warrior”.

I rose in the early AM on Monday to hop a jet, sometimes having to wake as early as 3 am. By the time I landed, it already felt like I had worked a full day, but no. There was at a minimum a 9 hour workday facing me before I got to check into my hotel room. Sometimes I was up a full 24 hours before I had the opportunity to sleep.

Among the many challenges of travel is missing the creature comforts of home. This long-time makeup lover had to abandon a vast selection in favor of a succinct collection that would suit my daily needs and fit easily in my carry-on. Each week I had only two lip colors to choose from, two or three eye pencils, and a tiny neutral shadow compact (or no shadow at all).

The founders of Stowaway Cosmetics are familiar with this conundrum. It doesn’t only affect frequent travelers, but women who exercise at a gym, need to reapply at work, or heck, anyone who wants to tote an assortment of cosmetics with her day-to-day. The brand is working to reduce makeup bulk by offering a line of petite products with luxe formulas.

Press Sample, Affiliate LinkThis week’s Makeup Wars topic posed a bit of a problem for me.  The Makeup Wars team is writing about our tried and true go-to products, the items we reach for again and again and replenish over and over. I had a blast pulling together this Beauty Blogger Essentials List, but have to admit that I couldn’t fit all of my “go to” beauty items in one post!

As a result, today’s post is part one of a two-part series and you can see the remainder of my Beauty Blogger Essentials List tomorrow.  Love what you see?  All of these products can be purchased at Nordstrom.com.  While you’re there, don’t miss the Nordstrom Clearance Sale!  It’s definitely worth a peek.

  • NARS Nail Polish: If I had to pick only one nail polish to use, I’d splurge on a bottle of NARS Nail Polish over and over again. This highly opaque color-rich formula can truly be applied with only one coat. It’s big 3 free, and has a gorgeous wide brush for applying. It’s a seriously luxe experience from end to end, with professional results. Retail is $20.
  • Lancôme Color Design Shadow and Liner Palette:  There are a gazillion eyeshadow palettes I love, but the Lancôme 5-Pan Color Design Palette is currently the first I reach for.  These palettes provide room for creativity, but don’t overwhelm with choices.  They are sized for travel, unlike a mega-palette, and also include tips for application.  I’m currently using Beige Brulee, but have my eye on Taupe Craze (in photo).  Retail is $50.
  • Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour:  I love WAY too many lipsticks to mention them all, but Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Color is definitely one of the first tubes I seek out when I’m applying my morning face.  The formula delivers a color-rich, satin finish and is available in a wide array of colors.  Palm Beach, shown above, is a fabulous vivid coral for Spring!  Retail is $27.
  • Lancôme Definicils Waterproof Mascara:  Here in the desert, temperatures are already starting to reach levels the rest of the world would consider summer.  To stay cool, we participate in a TON of water activity, so my makeup has to always be ready for some splashing.  I testing Lancôme Definicils Waterproof Mascara last summer, and when I say “tested” I mean I wore it for a day of watersliding action with my kids.  This formula didn’t run or budge AT ALL.  Retail is $27.50.
  • Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Eye Pencil:  This reformulated version of an old favorite is still a mainstay in my makeup collection.  This water-resistant formula is the one you need to pick if you truly need color to last from day to night.  It applies in a gorgeous, smudgy texture that’s easily blended to perfection using the provided smudge-tip.  Once the product sets, it will stay put for hours!  Retail price is $23.
  • Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Body:  Dry, flaky skin be gone!  Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Body is perched in my shower, and has been for some time.  This physical/chemical peel first acts as a scrub.  Then it should be left on for up to 5 minutes while it works it’s magic, eliminating dry skin and revealing the healthy skin beneath!  Retail is $65.
  • Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm: After a fellow beauty blogger raved about Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm, I splurged on one for myself, and have been using it regularly ever since. This undereye cream is rich, delivers the moisture I so desparately need, and also tingles after you apply (so you can tell it’s working to reveal healthier skin). This product is paraben free, and Algenist is also made right here in the USA! Retail price is $65.
  • Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion:  When Shiseido launched their suncare line, I immediately grabbed a bottle of this SPF 50+ broad spectrum, water resistant sunscreen.  Since that first trial run, I’ve purchased it over and over again.  As you’d expect, this product is superb sun protection, especially if you’ll be pool side.  What you might not know it is wears beautifully under makeup, as it has an almost matte finish when you apply.    Retail is $39.
  • Bobbi Brown Corrector: This little compact has been my “go-to” undereye concealer for quite some time now.  Once again, while my first was a press sample, I’ve since purchased this product over and over again (and usually keep a backup for travel, or to ensure I don’t run out).  Bobbi Brown corrector is a heavier concealer, and has an orange undertone that cancels darkness under the eyes. Retail is $25.
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette:  I don’t know one beauty lover who doesn’t think the Hourlgass Ambient Lighting Palette is fabulous.  This palette contains an all-over face powder, a highlighting shade, and a bronzing shade.  It’s perfect for some subtle contouring, or to use each shade stand-alone.  Retail is $58.
  • NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer: NARS instantly won me over when they launched their Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. I generally avoided tinted moisturizers before NARS launched their version, as I required more coverage to even out my skin tone. NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is slightly more opaque than the standard tinted moisturizer, but delivers a natural look. Since receiving my first sample I’ve purchased this product over and over again! Retail price is $43.

All of these items can be found at Nordstrom.com. Be sure to click through the links below to see and read other Beauty Blogger’s “go-to products”! I’ll also be posting another round of Beauty Essentials for your reading pleasure tomorrow!
