I’m a child of the 80s, and that particular decade was the decade of heat styling!  Crimping irons, straightening irons, curling irons, cordless irons.  I owned them all.  Each made big promises, and many failed to deliver in a miserable fashion.  As a result, I swore off my heat styling tool addiction and stuck to the basics.  I just couldn’t take any more disappointment!

But when an image of the InStyler crossed my desk,  I just had to see how it works.  Part curling iron, part brush… what on earth does this contraption do, anyway?

Well, I was surprised once I got the InStyler in-house!  While it may appear to be a curling iron, the InStyler is actually another tool for straightening hair!  The heated cylinder actually rotates, while the brush bristles hold hair firmly in place.  So now you’re wondering why you would need an InStyler if you already own a straightening iron.  Well, while I adore my straightening irons (and require them!), the InStyler more closely mimics the voluminous styling of a professional blowout.  Rather than pin-straight and flat, hair can be easily styled to be slightly wavy, and flipped under or over.  It’s a much more natural look!

Off label use:  The InStyler is a great tool to “refresh” a day-old blowout.  Just style select pieces of hair at the crown of your head, and the product adds the volume you lost while you slept.

While I like this tool, I do need to share some downside.  If you’re looking for speed, the InStyler isn’t for you.  You definitely will need to style hair in small sections for the best results (just like a blowout), and that takes some time!  Also, this iron gets SCORCHING HOT!  Remember all of those self-inflicted forehead burns when you styled your “wall bangs” in the 80s?  It’s just as easy to burn the scalp with this tool, so be sure to attach the included thermal shield if you’re clumsy!
