lady blush swatch So many swatches… so little time! I took this photo of MAC’s “Lady Blush” from the MAC Cremeblend Blush collection and almost forgot to post it for your viewing pleasure!

I’m particularly happy to get the opportunity to sample shades like Lady Blush, as the apricot/earthy shade is truly universally flattering. As you can see in the swatch, it’s suitable for the fair-skinned. But it’s certainly opaque enough to be stand-out beautiful on dark skin as well! I’m a big fan of the luminous finish. I think it adds a youthful touch.

Givenchy Le Prisme Eye Quad in Candide Garden

As someone who writes endlessly about makeup and skin care, you probably assume that I’m the type to “haul” product (that is- binge shop). The truth is I’ve always been a budget-conscious consumer, and while I’d circle many a makeup counter for hours, I’d rarely go crazy and madly fill shopping bags with product.

The exception to this was Givenchy. Once upon a time, when I traveled frequently between New York and Vancouver, I simply could not resist the siren song of the Givenchy displays at the duty-free shops. Since these pricey gems were also discounted, I felt all the more justified to spend crazy money on product! Most often, I would grab shades of the Compact Powder Quartet. I kept them, I gifted them… oh how I adored those gorgeous Givenchy face powders!

I recently had the opportunity to sample Givenchy’s Le Prisme Eye Quad in Candide Garden. This quad is a limited-edition item from the Givenchy Naivement Couture collection for Spring 2011. Dipping my brush into these beautiful shadows was like a reunion with an old friend. The feeling of giddy girlish excitement swept back over me the instant I spied the earthy neutrals in the signature Prisme format. A deep teak brown is combined with an orange, a peach and a golden hue. The finish is metallic, so once applied the orange hue looks a bit like a bright rust shade, and the gold shade looks like a bright yellowy gold. All housed in a chic little case with an applicator drawer tucked beneath, this compact is amazingly luxe and should be considered an accessory in and of itself!

Treat Beauty Soft Candy Pink Buttercream Tinted Lip Balm

The best news about my addition is that my lips stayed deliciously soft this Winter, despite the cold and wet Seattle climate. An addiction that is actually beneficial shouldn’t be considered an addiction, right?

Well, as of March 2011, Treat Beauty has added a wee bit of tint to the already amazing Jumbo Lip Balm! As if the balm wasn’t already amazing enough, this hint of color now makes my Winter favorite an an ideal choice for Summer!

The Soft Candy scent of this balm is positively mouth-watering, and contains shea butter and coconut oil. The shea butter has a natural sun protection of SPF 18, and the subtle blushing-pink shade is easy to apply with no mirror, even though the balm is so chunky! It’s the perfect beach-tote lip balm.

MAC Cremeblend Blush

The name of my blog–perhaps not reflected upon quite enough–was intended to pay homage to the makeup trends of the past… the very stepping stones to modern day makeup artistry. The mothers of my generation wore “rouge”, and their teenaged Generation X daughters wouldn’t dream of touching the stuff… at least until now.

Spring 2011 has me totally enamored by cream-based cheek color launches. Not one is actually called “rouge”, but let’s call a spade a spade, right?

MAC Cremeblend Blush launched on March 3rd. The collection includes a range of pinks, peaches and mauves that are universally flattering and will have you thinking that maybe, just maybe, Mom wasn’t so hopelessly clueless after all. The finish is youthful and dewy, and the color can be subtle or intense, all depending on how you apply it!

I love MACs application of the product on this model. The creative use of MAC Cremeblend highlights the fact that rouge can be used in a creative, modern way. Her entire face has an ombre appearance!

MAC Sheen Supreme

Ho boy! Various severe illnesses, a remodel project, a family vacation, an ER visit and a partridge in a pear tree! This beauty blogger is way backlogged right now, and I must sincerely apologize that my reviews of the latest and greatest Spring 2011 makeup launches have not been published in a timely manner.

Not only do I need to apologize to you–my beloved reader–but I also owe a huge apology to MAC Sheen Supreme lipcolor. This is my first time posting about this recent launch, and the truth is it is my #1 favorite new product launch thus far in 2011. In the past 6 months, I’ve reviewed countless “hybrid” lipcolor products, which have basically been sheer glosses in lipstick form. MAC Sheen Supreme is more opaque. The color impact is definitely more like a lipstick. The feel is light and whipped, no heaviness or chalkyness here!
